Last night I was thrilled enough to pop into China Heights Gallery in Surry Hills to celebrate the launch of Kahlo.

I'm lucky enough to have worked with Fay (the business brains!) in the past, and it was a great launch of a fantastic label, with a really directive premier collection and a lot of promise.

I think I've described Kahlo to a couple of people as "What the daughter of a really chic woman who wears Celine would wear."

The garments are really beautifully constructed, using high quality materials and they show that Kahlo's definitely heading in the right direction for the future.

A. How cute is this leather skirt?

B. How amazing is the model for the first lookbook?

C. Elderflower flavoured drinks.

I recently visited the Benefit Brow Bar at Myer in Sydney. Brilliant! I was left with gorgeous brows. But this isn't about me, it's about the girls whose photos I took on my iPhone to say to the stylist (plucker? tweezerwoman?) "This is who I want to look like!"

While I filled my phone with pictures of stunning burberry girls and so on, the best pictures were those I found on good old facebook. Which led me to discover - my friends are pretty much the most attractive girls on the planet. Some cultural diversity does wonders too (considering my entirely UK background, 'where people come from' is basically a hobby of mine).

For example friend number 1, who is pretty much the most stunning thing this city has ever seen, has PERFECT eyebrows. While I may never get them due to my lack of Greek/Maltese heritage, are they not some stunning inspiration?

And I'm telling you, she has the most beautiful long, healthy hair I've ever seen. Honest... it is so inspirational, it makes me want to dive into a vat of moroccanoil.

Next on the roll call of attractive friends, this one:

Who rocks hair above her ears better than anyone I know (or would like to know, and that includes you Emma Watson, and you Halle Berry) and is currently sporting the cutest pixie cut since Mia Farrow.

And how is that red lip? Stunner! She's picked a perfect red lip for her skin tone, which is a talent and a process for most. Mine is an orangey red, even though I'd kill to suit a deeper one.

As a side note, this one also has awesome eyebrows, and far more attainable for me, due to her being half English. (but half Sri Lankan. Hence the bindis. Hot.)

Friendly inspiration is all over the place.

Hannah? Frigging ace of a balayage. Good sandals too. I'd say the great texture had more than a bit to do with her half-Chineseness. Asian folk have some of the best hair texture around.

My sister? Super fine hair but creates such brill volume. Gives me hope that my all-English hair and face can be interesting.

And considering we're pretty much twins separated by 5 years, it helps.

My cousin (aka Angelina Jolie's young twin, no?), does 'natural' hair makeup with such aplomb it hurts.

The Lebanese hair volume doesn't hurt a jot either.

The point is, a look around your facebook friends will give you a far better idea of some realistic, attainable, stunning beauty ideas than tFS. Plus, you can ask these folk exactly who does their amazing brows or which shade of red they found.

To be honest, most of us can't flick through our "Summer 2010" photo album and say to our hairdresser, "See my BFFs Karlie and Jourdan? I want their hair!"

But really, Karlie and Jourdan sort of fade into the background in comparison to my friends. Don't you think?

Her Methods Are Inscrutable, or Why I Love the Simply Irresistible Video

This video most definitely ties at number one on Brooke's list of Best Video Clips of All Time (along with Single Ladies, I'm half mainstream, so kill me). I was watching it the other day on the train when I realised there are so many components of this video I love, and that I should definitely watch it 4 times, taking photos on my iPhone, to make a post.

The first is that these girls are unashamedly thin, curvy and total pre-1990s-trend-setting glamazon women. They definitely have waist-hip ratios below 0.70 (mine is 0.69, natch, brag) and are basically very very fine specimens.

I'm sick of politically correct nonsense regarding women's bodies. These women are hot. Like, H.O.T. hot. And I love it.

2. As such, they look ridiculously good in these bodycon dresses.

And who wouldn't love the apparent uncoordination when paused? Girl on the back right is way to enthusiastic, girl front left is a bit slow, etc etc.

3. They also have really, really well-toned backs. Fine specimens indeed.

4. The "are they or aren't they" man-hands of the guitar solo.

5. Colour blocking. Genius. Really quite Gucci Spring 2011, no?

Way too many gratuitous pictures of that shot, but lets be honest, it is everyone's favourite.

6. They have derrieres to rival Pippa Middleton.

That's a good reason. Right, Robert?

7. The makeup is impeccable, and you get some extremely fantastic closeup shots to appreciate the thick Brooke Shields brows, glossy red lippie and smokey taupey eye.

I know the rules about lips and eyes and not doing both at once, but I'd say when you're in a Robert Palmer vid, all rules about makeup and common decency fly out the window.

8. Number eight most definitely goes to RPs excellent facial expressions.

Number 9, but definitely not the least important of these reasons:

They look seriously, seriously good in swimsuits (even poorly cut 90s swimsuits), and as a Zimmermann girl this is something I value highly. They even make goggles look mildly sexy, and anyone who has ever been to a public pool in Australia knows this is quite near imposs.

I first fell in love with her in the Vogue UK March 2011 edition, with a red-hot cover, super-sweet article and a few great pics. I then happened upon her on the Ellen Show (I was flicking, don't judge) being SO cute and all like "This is my first talk show!".

For me, it's pretty much all about the hair.
She had extensions for the shoot, says the article, and it resulted in some pretty amazing-looking shots:

"Rosie remains composed and effortlessly sexy, even when the photographers repeatedly soak her with buckets of water"

She's a soaking wet Victoria's Secret model. Of course she was bloody sexy.

My favourite model since about 3 weeks ago, RHW and me have only 1 inch of difference in our measurements.
We're pretty much the same person.
Except I didn't come first in Maxim Magazine's "Hot 100" list.

Anyway, the newsworthy point of this isn't my striking similarity to this woman, it's the fact that she dyed her hair!

She walked in very much a blonde, but exited with shiny, bouncy brown locks. Everso slightly trimmed as well, methinks.

Personally, I find it far better - I am biased toward silky, shiny, blown-out hair rather than the matte unbrushed-ness she sported before. But, blessed with incredibly superior genes, she's one of those folk who can likely shave her head, then grow dreadlocks, dye them candyfloss pink and still be #1 on Maxim's Hot 100.

Sigh.

AND just as a cherry on the top, she's scored the cover for July Elle UK, which I'm more than thrilled about considering that it is my favourite and best magazine in the world (in my books). Elle has even posted a really, really cool "Behind the Cover" video of RHW...

Revelation

It's easy to get stuck in a rut of thinking, "I have oily skin" or "I have dry hair" or whatever, and stop paying attention to the condition of your skin/hair and using products that suit it. ~~So I woke up one morning and realised~~ I realised after several hours on PRIMPED that my skin is actually DRY, and I need to stop using my harsh teenage skincare products. Ditto for my hair, this winter cold-snap and wind had left me with super-dry hair. So, then came the decision I needed some new prods...

I'd seen a little bit before about sulfates and parabens, and how 'bad' they are for your skin and hair, but never paid a lot of attention (mainly due to price and plain old ignorance). Once I actually researched it, I found out sulfates are strong irritants used in cleaning products, and were probably contributing to my v. sensitive skin being so foul and my hair drying out. Parabens are a preservative very high in estrogen (what?!).

So I usually never rave or rant this much about any one product or brand, but I'm utterly and totally converted to A'kin and Al'chemy products (skin and hair respectively).

But the proof is pretty much in the pudding...

Here's my hair now:

At this stage, it's really super easy to get a bit of volume up the top, but I wasn't up for 'big hair' today.

This hair has been washed with the below products, dried with my Parlux (RECOMMEND) and lightly brushed. No other products... except I straightened my fringe!

I used to have to wash every 2-3 days, now I only wash every 4-5. My hair's softer and bigger - and it smells pretty.

Al'chemy Lavender Shampoo (I'm a sucker for anything lavender), Macadamia and Wheat Conditioner (likewise, give me some macadamias and I'm yours forever).

I know this is some major fangirling, but I have literally been getting compliments lately along the lines of "You look fresh" and "Your hair looks so clean! I want to wash my hair now!" (seriously - I couldn't make those up).

As for my skin, here is... a makeupless photo. Yep. No photoshop, no makeup. Pinky Promise.

Look at those dark circles! Oh wait... !!!

My skin tone has evened out (cheeks still a bit rosy, saves money on blush I suppose) and no more dry spots!

This new-found nice complexion means less makeup, which in turn means less clogged skin... It's a vicious cycle!

I used to have dry spots in the places indicated:

And nothing, no moisturiser applied every hour, good old exfoliating or even intense Papaw ointment could fix these dry spots. And if you have dry spots, you know that as soon as you apply foundation, things go from bad to worse at about 148km/h.

Rosehip oil is the miracle worker. It's also working to fade a few scars on my body, and those dry spots are totally gone after 1 week's use. I'm not kidding. GONE.

Since I no longer need my industrial-strength-teenage-skin-cleanser, and I'm plagued by dry patches, a nice creamy number is another weapon in the armoury. I don't think I've ever used a cream cleanser before but they feel so lovely! Ditto for the moisturiser, though I wish it came in some sort of mini pump thing or something, rather than the tub (so much product wastage under my fingernails).

Rose and Geranium cream cleanser, Rosehip and Shea anti-oxidant cream.

At the business end of things, yes, natural products are more exxy than sulfatey, parabeny ones. But because the products are more concentrated, you use less. I used to fill my palm with sunsilk to coat my hair, now I only use about half of that with Al'chemy. And that little bottle of Rosehip Oil will pretty much last the rest of my life.

Of course, A'kin and Al'chemy are not the only products free from sulfates and parabens. My Priceline has an entire section dedicated to them, like Burt's Bees, Trilogy, Grown Organics, Gaia, Natralia... But just because it's natural doesn't mean it won't irritate (I've learned the hard way), like other skincare it's about finding a product that works for your skin. Trial, error, and pass on to your teenage sister.

All I'm saying is, pay some attention! Skin changes every season, every month, every day. It's worth having a small arsenal of products to use at different times, to make sure you're skin is getting what it needs and not clogging up or drying out.

Lacquer Loving (and some toothpaste too)

I'm having such a nail polish moment right now. And with the stick-on nails trend and Johnny-Depp-movie-themed-lacquers going around, it's safe to say most of the fashion world feels the same way.

So when the naked communications girls invited me to the launch of a new sensodyne toothpaste, all they needed to say was "free Orly manicures" and it was enough to drag myself to Darlinghurst's The Victoria Room (so help me, I love a new shade without the commitment).

So forgive the bad lighting, the shadows and that weird freckle on my finger and take a look at Orly Foil FX in Rage... a V delightful rose gold. Take a looong look. Because its sold out.

Actually I lie. The big bottles are sold out, you can still buy the minis online. And really, minis suffice - who ever uses an entire bottle of nail polish?

And in addition to the Rose Gold, there's Gold and Silver. Amaze.

And they're not all grossly textured like most glittery nail polishes (which I hate), they are actually super smooth and shiny and pretty much perfect.

I also got a bottle of the beautiful La Playa polish in my goodybag, which featured on the cover of June Vogue - this will be tried out soon!

I haven't a clue how Orly managed to slip under my radar before. The shades are beautiful, really dense and creamy and heavily pigmented, which I love. And I'm also in love with the lovely Orly girls supervising the manicure madness, whose names have totally slipped my mind, but one of them was my Rage twin and she was incurably nice!

I also confessed to my manicurist Luciana that I hate having my nails professionally done. The oils, the massage - I just can't do it. And besides, I'm too fickle with my nails to regularly shell out the cash for a manicure. And as soon as but ONE chip appears, it's all gone. Done, off, no more. So. Paranoid.

But back to the ACTUAL EVENT, it was brilliant! The naked comms girls were so incredibly nice, and I do believe one of them had a Scottish (or perhaps Irish, who knows) accent which made life even better. So Famous magazine hosted the party, which was cool because I got a back-issue in my treat bag to peruse on the way home, and I served some Famous girls at Zimmermann pre RAFW and they were super nice.

And even though toothpaste is probably the last thing I ever envisioned writing about on this blog, I actually do like it. I'm a sucker for anything new and shiny with fun packaging. This one foams up an incredible amount and actually does leave your teeth feeling super clean. I haven't yet tried the whitening version but probably will soon!

The Victoria Room is super pretty, the decor is amazing. I'd never been but it's so chilled and relaxed and pretty and the antithesis of my visions of Kings Cross. Other sponsors were Dermalogica and Gorgeous Cosmetics, and Brooke Daniels' collection was on show as well.

Oh and the Faders DJd, and even though I have a distinct intolerance for loud popular music, (when they were talking about what music they liked they might as well have been talking in Swahili, though I did catch 'Rihanna', who I'm proud to say I DO love), one of them had a seriously great balayage and revealed Sandy at Brad Ngata to be the magic-worker. Information score!

Sea Cliff

Anyone who is in Sydney, or follows anyone in Sydney, would know winter has come in May this year! Which I'm not complaining about - I would much prefer to cosy up in knitted layers and boots and scarves and so forth, than sweat it out in a cotton dress.

Yesterday the man and I headed to Sea Cliff Bridge in Wollongong to take a walk. It's actually beautiful - look at the background of this shot:

Zu boots, Zimmermann jeans, Bonds top, Witchery knit, Mimco scarf, Zara coat, Portmans Sunnies (I can't bear to spend money on sunglasses because of my talent for leaving them in really inconvenient places), APC tote and necklace which belonged to my Gran.

The lovely little APC tote I snapped up during #fashattack time with Hannah at bloodorange, will be the perfect "second bag".

But back to the bridge, there's literally thousands of padlocks locked to the railings.

They're engraved with really cute things like this one, which commemorates Pam and Les' 60th wedding anniversary - so cute!

My most current re-obsessions is nail polish. This one is Rimmel's Lycra Pro in 365 Beige Style. It has this super fat brush which takes a bit to get used to, but is brilliant once you do. I've also had it on for about 3 or 4 days now, no top coat, and not one chip! It's a great easy nude colour.

Outfit photos are back - this time with amazing shoes and a better camera and even a photographer! Who happens to be my 15 year old sister, but y'know.

This great coat is one I bought at my 'local' Zara in New York, which was absolutely brilliant. I haven't yet visited Sydney Zara but I'm planning on it (when I get some cash and they restock!). I'm loving the black T with the leather pocket.

I fell in love with these boots last year when the original grey suede ones were on shelves. When the black leather version came about this year, I knew I had to buy them. When I came back from my recent American Adventure, there they were - one pair left, in my size, on sale.... cliche I know, but it was meant to be.

I've been wearing them around the house these past couple of days and they are brilliant - so easy to walk in and comfortable (seriously!) and I have so many outfits planned.

Plus, the 11cm heel height means when I wear them I tower over my mum (even more), and am only 10cms shorter than my boyfriend. I like the world from up here!

This little Mimco gem has become my constant companion. I used to be a "big handbag or nothing" type, but the cuteness of this forces me to compress to the very essentials.

These jeans I picked up at Gap in Aspen are amazing... they're the 1969 legging jean and I regret not buying them in a couple of colours. They're so comfortable and the denim is really soft, I've been wandering around in them for days. Plus the shade is surprisingly versatile, grey jeans work with black, navy, brown, white and colour... in love.

A Wardrobe of Skirts

My friend, Hannah, had a life-changing moment while watching The September Issue. She might not like to admit it, but Sally Singer's declaration of "A Wardrobe of Jackets" sent Hannah into a spin, and now she owns more jackets than there are hairs on her head.

Me, I'm more of a beige trench, black blazer kind of girl.

But skirts are becoming another thing altogether.

Building a wardrobe of skirts is looking like a better idea every day.

It's 100% the Zimmermann influence.

There are SO many beautiful skirts in store right now. From the Fleeting gridwork skirt in that lilac print I can't get enough of, to winter's Conversation full leather skirt, to this Vertigo Sherbet floral drape skirt (sherbet floral - is that not the best name for a skirt ever?). I tried this one on today and fell in love. Rarely does a skirt fit properly around the waist like this! And orange is unexplored territory for me, but it seems to work.

I fall in love with skirts, for their drapiness and their structure, their happiness and versatility. Everyone loves a happy skirt. Who doesn't feel like spinning in circles when wearing a full, floaty chiffon number? Or playing sexy secretary in a fitted pencil? And what about the feeling of wearing a leather mini skirt at night? The sherbet floral skirt above made me smile and spin.

I much prefer skirts to shorts, despite any "practicality" arguments, skirts win hands down for fun and femininity. I feel that much more comfortable wearing a skirt, than in a pair of pants. I can wear a pair of jeans, of course, but they feel restrictive and not nearly as fun or girly as a skirt. And denim shorts have now become ubiquitous on an ugg-boots-in-America scale, so I much prefer my cute denim mini.

Zimmermann Loving

This week I worked the Zimmermann Warehouse Sale, aka a week of madness and racks and racks of beautiful clothes. The staff, a team of about 12 beautiful and lovely girls, worked hard to not be constantly distracted with "ooh, pretty" moments which, despite all of our efforts, occurred every few moments. The entire SS10/11 range was down to some incredible prices.

One of my biggest "ohmygodmusthave" moments occurred when I finally figured out how the Vertigo Wrap one-piece worked.

This beauty of a swimsuit is a veritable pain in the derriere to hang, and initially was the bane of my existence.

But then, I saw this runway shot:

And lost all words.

I ran to the racks and pulled out a 0, in the black and white print, and snaffled it away with my other swimsuit (yes, it is March) and a few other bits and pieces. You can't, for the life of you, figure out how it may work by seeing it on the hanger, but this picture says it all. The light orange-pinkish print is gorgeous, and looked beautiful on a darker-skinned Asian girl I helped with trying it on, but would've drained my pink-toned pale skin far too much for summer.

So yes, it's March (Australia's Autumn) and I'm left with two gorgeous swimsuits. The answer? I've wrapped them up for myself, for my 21st birthday. In October. It'll be a tough 7 months indeed.

On another note,

I'm heading to the USA this Saturday and I've been trapped on the Barney's and Sephora websites like a woman possessed. Many significant finds have been made, and many purchases will ensure. I've decided to take my macbook with me (free wifi in every hotel), so expect some purchase posts and hopefully great outfit photos! (The DSLR is making the trip as well)

Any recommendations for Aspen or NYC would be much appreciated!

Lips and eyes

A couple of weeks ago I had the great pleasure of modeling for one of my friends' TAFE designing final project for 2nd year. Have a go at the amazing makeup!

My point is not the blue winged eyeshadow (as amazing as it is, thank you Napoleon!), its the incredible talent sitting at a tafe, waiting to explode into the world. There were some AMAZING designs (balanced by some not so amazing ones, its true).

I am really excited for some of these girls and guys to get out into the big world of the fashion industry. Some of them are about to be very shocked and disillusioned, but I guess it is the same in any industry.

My mum always reckons you should go and try for what you really want to do, get out there and try your hardest to reach your goals, and that's what these kids are doing. They didn't listen to all the people who said, "SO many people want to be fashion designers, and how many of them make it?" - but the thing is, maybe only one person out of those 40 will make a name for themselves... but they all tried, and thats the point. And they can still have amazing jobs in the industry, so good on them!

On a completely unrelated note, today I became a real Australian woman - I made a pavlova. And some mango mousse, to go together and feed to my boyfriend tonight. I'm in the last few days of dating a teenager, ever. The excitement! Happy birthday love.

So, this is the latest issue of Yen.

HILARIOUS story re the deer. This cute little fluffy deer sits on a strange lone shelf in our office and watches us potter about in the office. Oh, if the deer could speak.

So I was snapping away pics of the office for Yen, and everyone was like "OH take a photo of the deer! Yen will love the deer!"

So I was a bit shocked when I went to the page of our feature and alas - no deer.

But when I took Yen to work on Monday morning, guess what Clare flicked to... the "Features" title page, with our little deer on a full-page of his own.

Clare and the rest of us laughed hysterically and we all were proud of our office mascot for affording himself a full page in this beautiful magazine.
